A Word A Week Challenge – ATMOSPHERIC

Milford Sound
Milford Sound

When I think “atmospheric“, I think cloudy, misty and eerie in some way.

To me, my experience in Milford Sound on New Zealand’s South Island was very atmospheric… well, at least that is another way to look at a day on the sound in freezing cold drizzle where you couldn’t see ten metres in front of you!

My parents-in-law recently returned from a beautiful cruise from Australia to New Zealand and their Milford Sound photos show an incredible clear blue sky and the sharp lines of Mitre Peak standing magnificently above the water. It would be nice to experience it in slightly less “atmospheric” conditions next time… but for now enjoy Milford Sound shrouded in plenty of… well… atmosphere.

  1. I love how everyone has different understandings of the same word. I’m hopefully going to visit Milford sound while I am in New Zealand. This is an awesome way to think about it. Your photos are gorgeous, now I won’t be disappointed if it isn’t a gloriously sunny day!
