Road Trippin’ – The Last of the Big Things

Sydney to Brisbane – total distance travelled 2500km.

We did the last 950km from Sydney to Brisbane in two days. Straight up the Pacific Highway coastal road with an overnight stop at Coffs Harbour.  I was on a mission – we were Big Thing spotting. I even had a list. I hate to say it though, it was quite disappointing and didn’t live up to the plethora of Big Things spotted along the inland route, However, here they are:

Big Banana, Coffs Harbour

Big Windmill, Coffs Harbour

Big Prawn, Ballina

Sadly, I didn’t get a photo of the Big Bunch of Bananas on the highway approaching Coffs Harbour. Most disappointingly, however, were two missing icons: The Big Oyster in Taree and the Big Bull in Wauchope. We drove around Taree in search of the Oyster – which is now apparently a Nissan car yard – without success. As for the Big Bull, according to the ever-reliable Wikipedia, the 14 metre-high cement structure was torn down in 2007. What a shame!

I thought I’d include a couple of photos from the last two days of driving for you so that you can see a little of the “coast road” scenery.

Where will the next road trip be? Who knows! Suggestions welcome!
