Capturing the Colour 2013

I’ve been inspired!

I was reading through another great travel blog called On The Luce and came across her latest post entitled Capturing the Colour 2013. The concept is simple – publish a blog post showcasing five of your favourite travel photographs which best capture the colours red, blue, green, yellow and white.

So instead of putting away washing, unpacking the dishwasher and getting tonight’s dinner ready, I’ve been trawling through my travel pics for the last year and have found my favourite colour-themed photos.

Red

John Pooley, a local wine maker from Pooley Wines just outside of Hobart, Australia is a car collector, and this gorgeous little Porsche is his pride and joy. The Pinor Noir that they make there may not be quite as red as the car but it is utterly divine.

Blue

Ciao, bella. Blue, blue and more blue from Lake Como in the north of Italy. The sky, the water, the mountains – absolutely azure.

Green

Sagano Bamboo Forest just outside of Kyoto, Japan is most certainly green. I think it is one of the most amazing natural sights in the world. The walking paths cut right through the grove, making a great place for a walk or bicycle ride. The tall bamboo stalks sway gently in the breeze and completely engulf you in green.

Yellow

Wild, dusty pink cherry blossoms dotted the mountainside, but poking through the grass were these beautiful bursts of yellow daffodils. Their colour and the way the sun shone through their petals was breathtaking. An unexpected delight high up in Gokanosho, Japan.

White

The attention to details in this installation at the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) in Hobart, Australia is incredible. It’s official name is Untitled (White Library) and it is by Wilfredo Prieto. Every book is bound in white. It’s quite an unnerving experience walking around it – I was looking for a sneaky flash of colour, or something having been missed, but the execution is amazing.

So these are my entries! What do you think? Which one is your favourite?

Entrants are asked to nominate five other bloggers to take part (although I wasn’t nominated and just took it upon myself to enter!) so the five bloggers who I would love to see entries from are:

  • Travel Monkey (I’m sure Kongo loves a bit of colour)
  • Through Harold’s Lens (who has an amazing eye for unique angles and strong colours)
  • Are We There Yet (Fealy Family, I wonder if your months around Australia’s top end can produce these five colours?)
  • Japan in 365 days (a fellow blogger with an even bigger appreciation for cherry blossoms and rice paddies than me)
  • Life Is Short. Eat Hard (who may be the only entrant to use food photos for this challenge!)

I’ll leave you today with a “wild card” colour photo that didn’t make the cut but that I thought had potential in the red category… we nicknamed this the little guy on the left “Obama” (for obvious reasons) when we saw him on a Kenyan village visit.
